Sharks in the Time of Saviours
by Kawai Strong Washburn
a revelation of a novel. the momentum of the narrative from the beginning pushed in a direction that my gut dreaded from the first couple pages - i don’t say this as a bad thing but rather the opposite, the story had clarity and a truthfulness to it. reading pidgin felt as easy as breathing. falling between each character’s pov chapters was like rolling over, sighing, inhaling the skin of each person from the page. what a heartbreaking and haunting and hopeful novel.
