Admissions: Life as a Brain Surgeon by Henry Marsh

4.0

Marsh, as a retired brain surgeon, feels free to be brutally honest about the profession, the NHS, and what's important about being a doctor as a calling vs. a profession.

After he retired, he did some work in Nepal and the Ukraine, and he reveals as much about culture and medicine in those cultures as he does for the UK. Practicing medicine is never just the best treatment for the case in front of you.

He also talks a bit about how his views have changed in his 40+ years operating on brains. And how always seeking to solve the current problem to extend life may not be the right or humane action to take.
