The Bonesetter's Daughter
by Amy Tan
I was really excited to read another one of Amy Tan's books after The Joy Luck Club, and she did not disappoint. This book uncovers the history of one family and all of its painstakingly raw hardships, sadnesses, and truths. The writing was so honest that I felt that I was each of the characters who lived out these stories, and after reaching the end of the book, I can only feel stunned. There is so much power in seeing things from other people's perspectives and also in how we remember the past. Once the characters understand this and bridge those inevitable gaps of misunderstanding that occur in any form of communication, they achieve happiness. I wish that I read this around Mother's Day (as it would have really fit the occasion), but other than that, I have no regrets with this book. It is my favorite book so far this quarantine.
