5.0

4.5 rounded up to 5 because Goodreads still doesn’t have half stars.

I had high expectations but I did not expect how it would grab me. If it had not been for all the messy BookTok authors I would’ve thought this was a bit over the top, but it really wasn’t. Very poignant, and had a clear message that the book refused to ignore or reduce its importance. While I read it in one day, I think a reason I was able to do so is because I found myself skimming some paragraphs due to the at times repetitive writing style of the narrator. It made it very easy to follow but it also made the themes feel surface level. Overall I loved it but wanted more.

TW: racism, death, grief, discrimination, slurs.
