Our Missing Hearts
by Celeste Ng
This book is very different from Ng's other works. It had a slow beginning but picked up the pace about a third of the way into the book. I am glad I read it. It seems to fit with my focus lately with reading Klara and the Sun and The School for Good Mothers. I like it when authors share a reading list from their research and what events inspired their writing. It is a dystopian book that I could recommend to some of my students. I do wish that poetry was included in the writing. The mention of poetry is not the same as a blend of genres with the writing like Jeff Zentner's In the Wild Light. I liked the focus on language and etymology. I enjoyed references to folk tales, fairy tales, and the importance of storytelling.
