Troubled Blood
by Robert Galbraith
After #4 of the Cormoran Strike series, I promised myself that I would never return to it. If it weren’t for the fact that I caught a cold and ended up in bed for three days, I probably wouldn’t have reached for book #5.
The books are too long and have many unnecessary plots. The pacing is slow for a very long time, and at the end of the book, we get pages and pages of infodumping.
I also have the impression that everyone in these books is unhappy. Everyone cheats on each other, gets divorced, or is lonely. Everyone drinks, smokes, and swears. I’m not saying I would like to eliminate it completely, but I miss at least a few ordinary people who function in healthy relationships. The characters are often exaggerated, and 90% of the men show disrespect towards women.
The Strike-Robin plot also put me off. Eventually, I read the reviews of books #6 and #7 to find out how the situation between them would develop because I don’t want to invest my time in this series.
