Feels much more like fantasy in space than science fiction. The most well fleshed out parts of the book are essentially about Earth — infodumping about Irish or Japanese customs. Characterization is thin, and the behavior/philosophies of the characters (who generally don’t really grow much at all) seem more a matter of convenience than any sort of coherent result of who they are. Honestly, it does fairly little of what it says on the tin.
