Dear Martin by Nic Stone

4.5

Such an important and heartbreaking story. I rarely read books told from the male perspective like this so it was very different. The message of the book was incredibly true and strong. I had to stop reading at points where I was just overcome with anger (and sadness in the second half). I never wanted to put it down but I could only consume two to three chapters directly before being over taken by emotion.
My biggest issues with the book were the writing style and the secondary plot points. With such a short book, it is difficult to explore the complex issues of interacial relationships and higher education so I understand why they weren't very detailed but I still wish there was a little more. As for the writing style, it just wasn't for me so I had trouble getting into the book but eventually I was able to get used to it.
