The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt

3.0

This book was a challenge, but I did enjoy it. Byatt has such a way with language, but I wished that she had not tried to stuff so much of her research on the time period at the expense of plot. I love stories about England around the period of WWI, usually. Unfortunately, she all this good material about the Fabians and the anarchists and whatnot, that she just let the minutia stall the story. No enough compelling characters, either, or at least you didn't get to spend enough time with the ones who were interesting. A danger of a large cast of characters, many of whom I found distasteful and quite a few of whom bored me silly. Ugh, the more I write the more I realize I really didn't like this much. I think I will re-read Possession soon, to re-set my Byatt clock.
