In a world where magic, faeries, and upper class etiquette is within the realm of normal possibilities Effie knows what a terrible idea it is to fall in love with Mr. Benedict Ashbrooke. Housemaids do not marry above their station, after all. But when a faerie named Lord Blackthorn eagerly wants to help her fall in love with her and propose to her, she decides the risk to her immortal soul is worth the risk. Can Effie earn the attention of Mr. Benedict with Lord Blackthorn's good intentions dogging her every step?

Regency-era English romances aren’t usually my choice of books, but as I started the series and enjoyed it, I continued with the series. This one was such a fun, cozy read! While the story isn’t complicated or as full of mystery as I’d have liked, the characters are fully formed and enjoyable. Effie meets Lord Blackthron, a woefully helpful faerie, and chaos ensues. It’s a nice little twist on the star-crossed lovers trope. The characters are likable, even the ones who aren’t as deeply flushed out as the MCs.
