// These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant

I'm at a point where I blindly trust Sneha's recommendations. Not only do I enjoy those books but I even binge read them most of the time. It was the same with These Silent Woods; a novel set in a hauntingly beautiful cabin cut off from the rest of the world. There's a father who loves his daughter fiercely and has been protecting and bringing her up amidst wilderness, almost becoming one with it. But underneath all this, there's a nervous energy about their decision for living out in the middle of a forest. After all, whom is Cooper so afraid of and what is he running away from?

Kimi's writing is to the point and beautiful. She describes the forest and it's habitants as if she has lived in it herself. Perhaps this is why she pulled off in creating such an authentic aura around the story. Cooper and Finch, two peas in a pod live a contented life without any human contact apart from a few neighbourly visits from Scotland, an old man whom Cooper distrusts. But the impending doom of being discovered hangs on Cooper's head every day. Kimi takes us through the survival of the two while jumping back to give us a glimpse of Cooper's past. When finally all the pieces fit together perfectly, you end up in a moral dilemma. To what lengths would you go to protect someone who means the world to you?

Reading about loss and love from a father's perspective was a distinctive change, one that I loved very much. The main character is flawed and is at times wrong and you still cannot help but feel for him. Although this isn't exactly a thriller, it does feel like reading something that has more to offer you. You cannot help but anticipate the next set of events that will unfold as you are reading.

These Silent Woods was everything I expected it to be and so much more. I most certainly recommend this one.

Thank you for the recommendation @reader_girl_reader
