Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
5.0
Fourth Wing left me with the biggest book hangover of the last five years. Since it was written by Rebecca Yarros, I should have guessed that I was going to sob, and I would be thinking about it until the end of time. This book has dragons. When have I ever wanted to have one? Never. And yet, I'm now obsessed with this world that she has created. Me, the one who hadn't read a fantasy book in ages.
It is so, so, good. Did it surprise me? Yes and no. Let me explain. I've been reading Rebecca's stories for years. Her character development is superb, and she is a master of understanding human nature. The depth and complexity of her characters make them not only relatable but also feel real. Her military knowledge shows in this book. So, I'm not surprised she created a masterpiece. But I'm surprised at my reaction to Fourth Wing.
I've already signed up to be a permanent member of the Xaden Riorson's fan club. He sees strength and beauty where others see weakness and inadequacy. He cares so much for others, even if it's not apparent to others, because he is believed to be the strongest and the ruthless rider out there. But the things he does for Violet? Swoon.
Oh, but it’s Violet Sorrengail who deserves all the praise. She is incredible! Strong-willed, wickedly smart, resourceful, and sassy. Time and time again, she shows everyone she belongs. Her chronic illness doesn’t define her nor makes her a frail woman. The way she outsmarts her opponents? Mesmerizing. Her inner dialogues are hilarious, and so are the conversations with her dragons.
Don’t get me started on the dragons. Tairn and Andarna are amazing. Their personalities? The best. Tairn is the most powerful dragon out there. Grumpy, protective, and an old soul. Andarna is joyful and has the biggest heart. Their connection to Violet is pure perfection. Only she could have ever ended with these two. Look at me, I’m gushing over dragons! Who would have predicted this?
Obviously, like the 100,000 people who have read Fourth Wing, I am impatiently waiting for the next book. And no, I didn’t see that twist coming! In fact, I read the last chapter twice just to make sure I hadn't missed something. So yes, I'm obsessed.
