This book took me all over the place, and I'm still not certain how I feel. I really enjoyed it, but also often felt like it would never end. I imagine this was partially the fact I read a lot of it as a hardcore,r so not only could I see how many pages there were to this book, but I also felt the weight of it when reading. but even when I switched to a digital cop,y I still felt like I wasn't making progress, even when I spent an hour reading, and that can't all be down to my attention span being destroyed by social media.
The standout parts to me were the complex world and the unique magic system. I really enjoyed seeing the interpretation of a tarot card magic system. It gave structure to what was allowed in magic but also made it original. I think that did require a lot of explanation, which added to the length along with the world building but I can't say that these are things I noticed when reading. The thing is, this book was long but I couldn't pinpoint anywhere that felt like that length was unnecessary. Every page was used to develop the plot, the characters, or the world itself. This was necessary but I definitely wished I'd finished it sooner.
I just can't believe now I have to wait for the next book to be released to learn what's next. There are so many unanswered questions and I need to know more. What will happen? I will obviously be reading the next book i just hope I remember what happened in this one when it's released.
