If you prefer your romance light or with only small easily resolvable issues, this series is not for you. These books are tough. They are looking at tough issues that sometimes pop up more than once.
Matt was abandoned by his parents and ended up in foster care. He does not believe that he is lovable and he does not believe that people stay.
Rhys has an idyllic childhood and just assumed that he would find the kind of love his parents have when he grew up. But he never seems to be enough.
These two are so amazing together. Rhys is just so open and naturally sunny it’s hard for Matt to process. Matt keeps his past a secret because he doesn’t want to ruin the way Rhys sees the world.
This book felt very real for me. Marriage does not erase all of your past. It does not cover up all of your insecurities. They might hide for awhile but they always pop back up. Even though it was not always an easy story, I loved how they just kept digging in and trying to find their way together. Our baggage can really fuck up our relationships. This book looks at how it can be a struggle when you love someone.
I loved the first book too. I have to say that I space them out because they are very emotional reads.
