The Magicians by Lev Grossman
2.0

I don't know that I have ever angrily turned pages in a book before until this one. I honestly just wanted it to be over so I could move on. I'm not a big believer in DNFing a book so I suffered to get thru this one. I feel like the author was a big fan of the Narnia series and Harry Potter and decided to give us the Temu version of that mash up.
The story never quite finds its footing, meandering through uninspired magical lessons and aimless teenage angst. Grossman's world-building lacks depth and originality, borrowing heavily from established fantasy works without adding anything new or compelling. The magical elements feel derivative and uninspired, failing to evoke a sense of wonder or intrigue. The pacing is uneven, with long stretches of tedious exposition and awkward dialogue that do little to advance the plot or deepen our understanding of the characters.
I found the novel to be a a tedious and forgettable journey through a world that never fully comes to life.
