The Janes by Louisa Luna

3.0

I read a lot of police procedurals. When they’re done well, they’re one of my favorite things to read. This one unfortunately fell flat for me. I didn’t find Vega and Cap to be particularly compelling characters, and I didn’t buy the supposed chemistry between them. Vega’s supposed ‘tough as nails’ persona felt contrived and cartoonish. But my biggest complaint is that although the book begins and ends with chapters told from the point of view of two of the sex trafficking victims around which the plot revolves, the victims’ voices are largely absent from the rest of the novel. It seems like a missed opportunity, one which could have added a lot more depth and emotion to the story.

I received a copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway.
