I wanted to like this book more than I did. (In my humble opinion): It was too disjointed. The piecemeal storytelling does not really work here. There was not enough description of his psychotic episodes. It was referred to before and after the fact quite often, but I did not really have a true sense for what the breaks were like. And. There was way too much false humility. "I'm Kurt Vonnegut's son, and I wrote a book, and I got into Harvard medical school in spite of my schizophrenia...but it's no big deal it could be anyone." No. Just..no.

All that aside, there was a lot of profound wisdom and some beautiful writing and insight. The author did lead a remarkable life, one that is worth redwing about, but I just wish it was a little more..something. Honest? Gritty? I'm not sure. It needs something more though.

Interesting insights into the a state of the healthcare system in the US, but..not what I signed up for.
