Mile 81 by Stephen King

3.0

This was a quick, creepy, and enjoyable little read. The characters weren't particularly awesome (Pete the 10 year old who swears, watches Boardwalk Empire, and drinks vodka wasn't remotely believable) and the insurance guy and the little kids aren't especially vivid or realistic, but the concept is really eerie and very solid. You keep wondering where it will possibly end and how many people will be caught in this trap.

That being said, the ending was absolutely terrible and unsatisfying. I wanted some resolution as to what the car monster was and where it came from, not this abrupt "kbye" style ending. Write a better ending next time, Mr. King.

This story feels like practice for something bigger. Good old Mr. King sure loves to practice!
