The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

5.0

This book succeeded on so many levels, I couldn't help but give it 5 stars. There were certain points where I thought that the plot took the short route and resembled less-developed novels that I can think of, but these points are few and I truly believe that everything else in the book makes up for it. Lynch has BIG ideas; with how expansive this world is and how much he brought in to the city of Camorr, I would have actually liked a longer book. Of course, a first-time author doesn't have enough leg room to be writing GRR Martin-length novels, but I'm just saying, Lynch could really create something amazing if he was given that room.

What really made it simply amazing were those certain points in the story where the narrator would set something up, either in an anecdote from the narrator or a digression from a character, and later on in the story it would come back in a big way -- and all I could ever think in those moments was, "That was some damn good story structure."
