Humboldt's Gift by Saul Bellow

4.0

This edition was especially splendid because of Jeffrey Eugenides. He was a perfect pick to preface this wonderful novel. Eugenides connections with Chicago and the Great Lakes areas are deep, and both of his novels revolve around the Chicago and it's suburbs of Bellow's era. Also another interesting overlap, Princeton University. In "Humboldt's Gift" the main character for which the novel is named enjoys a professor position at Princeton, the esteemed university where Eugenides is currently enjoying his own professor position. I think these connections contributed to Eugenides insights on the novel.
