The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin

4.5

After a slow start for a chapter or two I really got into it. I found the ideas very compelling and couldn't wait to read and see how it got resolved in the end. Apart from George I found the characters to be a bit vague and uninteresting for most of the book, but at the end I really thought Haber to be quite an interesting character. George as a passive, malleable character was such an interesting choice, I thought. I understand that this was not a character-driven story, so it didn't bother me much that the characters were in the background of the story - I am still rating this 4.5/5. Had we gotten more focus on the characters themselves this would have been a 5 star read, without a doubt. I especially enjoyed how Haber
/felt that he was working for the greater good. But never once reflecting on why he would be the best person to decide what the greater good was. And how he had absolutely no problem also personally benefitting from it on the side.> Brilliantly done.
