White Oleander by Janet Fitch

I want so much to hate this book. But it’s one of the few books in my life that just sticks with you after you read it. I don’t know how I came to read this, maybe a librarian recommended it? Maybe I just randomly picked it up. But I remember reading it in high school and thinking that these woman are such forces to be reckoned with.
I’m in my thirties now and I have such a different outlook on this book. Maybe because I’m a mom, but I have such a different curvature of thinking now that I’ve read it again. It’s still most definitely one of my favorite books. Astrid is so strong in her own way but yet it’s never clear to even her at the end that she survived. Maybe that’s how it is, maybe those with damaged mothers know you can never escape. I always hope the author would write a sequel but then it doesn’t need a sequel because we know that Astrid will be ok. Such a great book. Highly recommend.
