The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood

Feeling conflicted because--

A) On the one hand, I do NOT like Margaret Atwood, The Person. She's skirted too close to TERF-ism and has shown herself to be a White Feminist, opposed to true intersectionality. But...

B) On the other hand, this book is a fucking masterpiece !!!

I picked it up from the library b/c I didn't have anything on hold (but I needed *something* to read) and I'm really glad I decided to give Margaret Atwood, The Author another shot. Her goals with THE BLIND ASSASSIN were clearly ambitious but she achieved them. It had me staying up late and waking up at 5 AM before school just so I could sneak an extra chapter.

The one thing I will add about Atwood is this: it's a mistake that society chose THE HANDMAID'S TALE as her magnum opus. THE BLIND ASSASSIN and ALIAS GRACE are fantastic novels that really hit the mark; HANDMAID's TALE, in my opinion, does not compete with Atwood's contemporaries who were much more adept at suffusing their sci-fi and dystopia with the true spirit of America's evils. (This is your sign to read ALIAS GRACE: I read it 4 years ago and I still think about it every single month!!)
