Dracula by Bram Stoker

"I am encompassed about with terrors that I dare not think of..."

I've always known about Dracula and it being the beginnings of the vampire craze, a classic horror novel. I did not, however, know much about the story itself. Had I known that it was in the epistolary style, I likely would have read it sooner, as that form of writing fascinates me.

I'm not a fan of the horror genre, but I don't think this fits the modern definition of horror. It has terrible things happening, a spooky atmosphere and circumstances and would, I'm sure, have been very fitting for its time. So if you're a fan of horror and want to read this, don't go in expecting it to be like the horror of today and I think you will be pleased with the experience.

This is a story of good vs evil in the truest sense. All of our main characters are good people thrown into a bad situation who decide that no matter what, they have to keep fighting. And fight they do.

Mina and Van Helsing are the standout characters in this story, though the rest of them have sparkling moments as well. These two show strength and brilliance that is never really manifested in the rest of the characters.

I'm sure I will be revisiting this story in the future.
