I shouldn’t have started the Diskworld series with this book. I figured that since it’s the first one I should just start here, but then I found out that I don’t need to read these in order. Apparently this is one of the weakest ones, and I definitely see that.
I did really like Rincewind as a character, and the first part of this book was pretty good. On the other hand, the 3 parts that followed were boring. It just felt like I was reading some silly misadventures of these two characters. There wasn’t a true narrative to the whole book, or a central conflict.
I could tell by how much of the Diskword is in this book that Pratchett was really trying to show off the worldbuilding. It’s good worldbuilding. There was just way too much of it for such a short book.
