The Cat Who Saved Books by Sōsuke Natsukawa

1.25

there’s a strong pull from the premise of this book.

rintaro is a secluded book lover who recently lost his grandfather and inherits his grandfather’s second-hand bookstore. they shared a love for books. stuck in his grief one day, a talking cat appears to ask him for help— to rescue books from mistreatment.

while these labyrinths were fine to read, the whole book has this lingering emptiness. i kept hoping for more reason to continue rintaro’s story but the book simply felt insincere. every character lacked depth and the pacing of the book was mediocre. the story only just begins to explain the importance of books, but it’s like the author gave up on convincing others when they ended it so shortly.
