Jade City by Fonda Lee

4.0

usually in a fantasy series, the first books are the toughest to get through. most of the time, the first book always emphasizes setting up the series which results in the author almost forgetting the plot entirely as the book progresses. but for jade city, i thought the book was a really good set-up for the rest of the trilogy. i loved the cinematic world-building and i really liked reading about the family dynamics of the kaul family.

also this is totally unrelated, but this book reminded me of these violent delights and immortal longings somehow? i guess chloe gong took inspiration from this series while she was writing her books.
