What a rollercoaster! I won’t say much for fear of spoiling things but this book the steamy tension and sassy defiance of the first two and layered in some action with a capital A. If you haven’t read the first two, stop reading this.
We continue to unearth the history between the Belvederes and the slayers. Callie and Montana’s journeys continue to progress. New adversaries and questions arise.(I have one: at some point is somebody going to start questioning these talking swords???). There are double crosses on double crosses on double crosses .
A new character emerges who very much has Leon from Ruthless Boys energy. He definitely amplifies the comedic element.
There are some steamy scenes though none progress past the point of the last book. So this one felt like it was drawing out the slow burn. 🌶️🌶️🌶️
And I may need to revise my assessment of diversity in the last two books. In this one, Magnar’s mother is described as having rich brown skin and braided, dark hair. So perhaps he is multiracial? I don’t remember how he is initially described, nor if she was ever described before. So this could be a bit of retcon. Or it could be that I didn’t read it very carefully before.
There is some dubcon in this one so check the content warnings.
The end had me crying. I literally have no idea where this series will go from here.
