Even If I Fall by Abigail Johnson

4.0

EVEN IF I FALL is yet another two-broken-teens-fall-in-love-and-heal-each-other's-wounds novels. There are so many of these on the YA market! I'm getting a little tired of them. The premise here is a little different—Brooke falls in love with the brother of the boy her older brother is in prison for murdering. As they pursue their impossible romance, both of them have to deal with their individual homes and the ways their families have changed in the wake of their shared tragedy. The characters in the story are, naturally, sympathetic. Still, Brooke's constant victim-y whining got on my nerves big time. It was unrelenting, which bugged. Plotwise, not a ton happens in this book. It's mostly a family drama and romance. The writing is heavy and melodramatic at times, but still strong. Overall, I didn't love this one. It was just an okay read for me. I'd give it somewhere between a B- and a C+.
