Colton Gentry's Third Act by Jeff Zentner

emotional funny hopeful sad fast-paced

5.0

I'm so obsessed with this book. I've never read a romance written by a male until now and Jeff Zentner just set the bar so high! What a wonderful story. Told in dual timeline, we get taken back to when Colton was playing football in high school and how he ended up on the stage as a country musician, and then our current timeline where he is on a journey of self-discovery after his singing career is kiboshed. I was cheering for our main character from the get-go and I was so sad to finish this book. I wanted to continue on with Colton to see where he ended up for many more years. Zentner writes his character so thoughtfully and with such detail that they all felt authentically flawed and real. The grief component was dealt with very gracefully although Colton had unhealthy coping mechanisms (see trigger warnings).

I'd recommend this to people who appreciate a second-chance romance, small town setting, the TV show The Bear, and Emily Henry books.

I think this would make an amazing screen adaptation because I have a few actors in mind for dear Colton....
