I once read a title on the "twin tyrannies of responsibility and compassion" (as it pertains to Jordan Peterson and Gabor Maté's work and theories respectively), and I generally agree with it.

As such, Maté strikes me as left-wing Jordan Peterson. Very unbalanced, veers far too much into "everything is trauma", everything is external, doom and gloom, without any balance. I found his ascription of very real physical diseases, like cancer, almost *purely* to mental causes, deeply concerning.

I really only solely enjoyed his chapters titled "Four A's and Five Compassions" and "Before the Body Says No" which detailed some practical advice on intuition, feeling and listening to one's own emotions, the practice of saying no, and general assertiveness skills.
