Godshot
by Chelsea Bieker
If you read my reviews, you know by now that I love (and prefer) a messy, broken main character- this book delivers. Lacey May is 14 and lives with her alcoholic mom in a town called Peaches that was hit hard by drought and whose only remaining citizens are members of a church (some say cult). The synopsis actually doesn't even begin to capture the raw, difficult, interesting pieces of this book. While it's fiction, the hardships Lacey May faces are tough to read at spots, so while I'm giving this a 5☆ review, I'll recommend it to select folks that I won't think will judge me for LOVING this book. (I feel the same way about 'All the Ugly and Wonderful Things' by Bryn Greenwood, so if you've read that and loved it, this is similarly beautiful and f*cked up.)
