Walking out of this World by Stephen Ford, Stephen Ford
5.0
Walking Out of This World was a really interesting read and while it was below 300 pages it manages to pack quite a lot in. It’s hard to fit this book into a box or rather genre. I’d say it’s almost like a Narnia but with a little less magic and focusing on a group of adults but it’s almost more than that as well.
The concept was something I was really interested in and I do think that Ford executes it well. The writing did feel a little repetitive at times but I think that is bound to happen when you are discussing a similar activity (walking). The idea of ‘good vs evil’, looking to the past to continue in the present and the ideas of free will were all covered rather well.
I personally think that a little more length could have seen these themes explored even deeper but that said Ford does a fantastic job and ties it up really well. I think for me, while I did like the writing and characters the main thing that stuck with me after finishing was the meanings or at least meanings I took away from the novel. Namely the idea that while the past is full of hurt, wonder and often fond memories it doesn’t do to get caught up in those and forget to move forward and focus on making new memories.
Thank you to the Book Network for the copy to review.
