Red Plenty by Francis Spufford

Eh. Some say that Capitalism will give you more total wealth/resources, but less evenly distributed, and Communism less total wealth/resources, but more equality distributed. *But* some of the original theory of communism is that it can work better than capitalism, that a planned economy could run better, that you'd have more total wealth and more equaly distribution. This book attempts to cover that.

*But* it's (intentionally) half written as a history book, half as a series of short stories which explain this history/theory. And it doesn't explain the history/theory enough. Here and there a few snippets of what it's trying to say, the rest is stories about life in Soviet Russia in the 1950s & 60s.

I would like to read more about this thesis, but I don't think this book is good for that.
