Instructions for Dancing
by Nicola Yoon
I must've been having an off day, because when I picked this up I was boorrred. I read only about fifty pages, thought I'd read halfway through the book, and put it down. Luckily/unfortunately I'm stubborn as heck about finishing books I've started,* because this one definitely got better in the middle. Then I got annoyed again, but we'll get to that.
Evie is snarky and clever, and she gave me some good chuckles. It was completely understandable how hurt she was Other than that, there were a couple of other things that annoyed me.
1. This makes some sense, because that's where she's at. But then . I feel like her behavior wouldn't have been any different if it hadn't happened, so what was the point of it?
2.

As far as I know, heart conditions are relatively treatable if you are aware of them and catch them early? Like, he can still die, but he's young - he could also maybe have a successful valve transplant and live significantly longer? That bugged the heck out of me (Someone tell me if I'm completely off the mark on this, I don't know anything about hearts really lol). Also this is not nearly as important, but she knew his cause of death to that level of detail, but there was no date on the program** for the funeral?

So I suppose my conclusion for this is that it was charming, I liked the dancing thing, Fiona was hekkin fantastic, and it had some fun parts, BUT I'm left feeling kind of annoyed by the whole thing.
*I'm this stubborn partly because I keep loving books I had trouble getting into at the beginning. As a mood reader I have to push through that mood sometimes, you know?

by her Dad's cheating, and I felt a little weird about how her Mom was still encouraging her to hang out with him. When the Mom explained that she'd pushed for the divorce, it was a little better, but for real I wish that they'd talked about it sooner. Evie was clearly pushing back against him, and for good reason, and her Mom didn't try to talk to her about it.1.

She breaks up with her friends before her friends can break up.Spoiler
she does the same thing again when she sees her future with X, and runs away as though she has learned nothingggg2.

X's tragic death is due to a bad heart valve? And she knows he has a bad heart valve, but she's just going to let him die? I was doing ok with it, it was tragic, it was sad, she was going to appreciate the time they had left, and then the very last bit said that he had a potentially treatable medical condition.
