Im tethering between being harsh on this book or being nice.
For one, I myself don't enjoy romance (fiction or not) it makes me want to gag so seeing it in fiction, especially when it wasn't done well, made me feel like I was in between something and I just wanted to go so bad, like those couples who love to kiss in public
when I tell you this book was rushed, like why are the main characters confessing their love for eachother in LESS THAN ONE WEEK? I DID NOT SAY ONE WEEK O I SAID LESS THAN, matter of fact, they were already in each others arms since first encounter, like they meet at a bar, catch eachother eyes from afar and i kids you not he tells her "my name is Tade Maxwell, remember that cause itll be your last name" this instalovet thing is weird and unrealistic and I don't know why authors keep using that trope, like I refuse to believe THAT many people love it for it to be a thriving popular trope. tbh, it was one of the reasons I had a hard time liking the male mc cause usually when stories have them in love this quick, it just means the relationship is probably fake and would have a mid-book twist like someone was most likely dared to like the other or something like that which would rock the relationship halfway into the book and thus with that precedent, I couldn't even like the male mc, i always found myself wishing him death.
Also also, why tf does the book read like an encyclopedia? It continues breaking down and explaining well known things like the meaning of EFCC, soup and whatnot, it seems like the story was more so told for a western or at least foreign audience to muse over the exoticism that is being on a holiday love story in a tropical cultural environment.
But don't listen to me, at the end of the day, I'm neither the target audience or in love, tbh, I find romance nauseating, my go to niches are Urban fantasy and mystery thrillers, I just want to branch out more and read slightly out of my comfort zone
