Allegiance of Honor by Nalini Singh

4.0

I confess: I started reading this book without reading of the previous 14 books. And boy, did that make a difference. I want to stress that the writing, story, and characters are not bad. Far from it. But not having all the previous context definitely made for a different reading experience.

ALLEGIANCE OF HONOR is a story about family and changeling packs coming together to support and protect one another as they work to stabilize a peace known as Trinity. While there are main characters who drive the plot, there are also moments where other couples from the previous books take the spotlight.

This is where I got lost. Much of the book felt like fluff, since we spent so much time with couples who got their happily-ever-afters or were looking to repair other relationships. It got to be too much since I hadn't spent much time with any of the characters. It was hard to connect with them since the stakes didn't seem to be very high, for the most point.

Granted, ALLEGIANCE OF HONOR is very sweet and perfect for long time fans, but I would have begun at a different point rather than at the end.

The writing itself is very good and I've enjoyed Nalini Singh books enough that I will continue with other works of hers. But I will definitely start at the beginning, next time!
