Just Think of the Scandal by Anne Knight

4.5

Just Think of the Scandal is a delightful historical romance novella featuring a business minded MMC, and an FMC that is half English, half Czech and nobility raised in Prague. A refreshing change a pace from the typical dukes and lords and wallflowers and widows!

At a houseparty hosted by her uncle, Eliska Czerninova, is accidentally compromised by the handsome businessman, Theo Fairplace. Luckily for both of them, sparks are flying and they could do worse, couldn't they? Things are going rather well for the two as they get to know each other during parlor games and brief stolen moments, but after a misunderstanding, Eliska runs away intending to make her way back to her home in the Land of the Bohemian Crown. Theo follows because honor demands it, but could it be more?

I read this delightful novella in one sitting... from 10pm to just after midnight, mind you! I hadn't planned to do so, but I was so drawn in that I couldn't put it down. Theo and Eliska were so charming together, even when they were unsure of the situation and feelings for one another. Theo is so down bad for Eliska that he absolutely loses it when he discovers she's run off and called off their engagement! I love this trope so much. It made up for my aggravation with Eliska for leaving in the first place, though to be fair to her, I do understand why she did it. Anyway, Theo catches up to Eliska on a train where the proceed to banter and bicker and have actual heartfelt conversations and eventually things get steamy and the train carriage is debauched! Whew! Did I mention there is a "good girl" moment happening here? No? Well... let's just say that poor little train carriage will never be the same... for a variety of reasons actually. I find this novella to be the perfect amount of plot and spice which is a feat! I look forward to more of Knight's books and have already downloaded the first book in this series which features Theo's older brother.

I received a complimentary arc from the author. All opinions are my own.
