This was the stuff my gothic dreams are made of. I totally understand the hype now, and why this book inspired the vampire gothic genre and the influential Dracula. The language is gorgeous and haunting, the vibes atmosphericc dream-like, and isolated—I swear you can feel the fog rolling off the page. And the tension between the Carmilla and Laura is filled with so much overwhelming intensity, it’ll make you gasp. Overall, classic horror and gothic fans—don’t sleep on this one!
