On the Fly
by P.J. Trebelhorn
This is one of the rare books where I couldn't connect with either of the main characters.
Court is a hockey team captain who lets herself be bullied around by a hotheaded newcomer. And while the focus of the book is more on the romance than the sport, it's a pity that Court's leadership role doesn't go beyond wearing a C on her team jersey.
Lana is second violin in a prestigious symphonic orchestra, and yet able to completely forget about music during her sabbatical. Her profession is nothing more than a convenient plot device to justify the temporary nature of her stay in town.
With the exception of Lana's son Eric, all other characters have similar stick-on roles that have no bearing on their lives and behaviours.
Overall, this book tasted of light romance and missed opportunities.
