Sleeper by Kayley Loring
4.0

I read a more recent Kayley Loring book that I loved so I decided to read more of her books, starting with SLEEPER. I loved the hilarious journals that each main character writes in periodically. Shane in his doctor-mandated Sleep Diary and Willa in her Scents Journal. These entries were laugh-out-loud funny and really added to the story!

Shane was a fun leading man. I loved his attempts at nailing fatherhood and being totally overwhelmed! All parents have been there. And Willa was a perfectly quirky leading lady. I love when female characters are free spirited and quirky in a way that feels genuine and Willa felt very real.

This single dad romance has kids that are actually kids! FINALLY! They vomit at birthday parties, complain about brushing their teeth, and actually contribute to the story, when so often kids are accessories in romances reading more like a pet than a real child.

The chemistry between Shane and Willa is FIRE. And holy hotness when they finally give in to temptation and get it on. Again, props to Kayley for writing sex scenes around the kids! I always wonder about characters in single-parent romances having screaming loud monkey sex while a toddler sleeps down the hall. But this book actually acknowledges the existence of these kids and how that effects the sex lives of our main characters. Well done!

The relationship with Shane's ex was also refreshing in it's honesty. While other books paint the Ex as either completely evil or completely Zen, this book has a realistic Ex with personal struggles and also good intentions. I love that!

Overall, this is a great book with loads of heat and lots of heart.
