The Winter Soldier by Daniel Mason

2.0

There isn't really a plot or a point. It's, I suppose, a story of war. The protagonist is a hero simply because he fails to be a monster. He is desirable for the sole reason he isn't disfigured. He lacks courage or conviction until the time has passed for it to matter. The book focuses on details that are utterly meaningless. The characters are flat and predictable. The prose is fine but lackluster. There is little to no world building. Readers will be bored to tears with the first third of the book and rewarded little by the end.

Honestly, I'd skip this one.
