Set within the time period of the Spanish Inquisition in Spain, I loved how Leigh Bardugo weaved in truths of that time with magic.
Luzia has been caught up in a world where magic can only come from two places, God or The Devil and she walks a fine line between both. Competing in a contest to win the King’s favour, Luzia is tutored by Santangel, a familiar who has his own curse to bear. This book is a little slow at the beginning but swiftly ramps up after Luzia is “discovered”. I really liked the development of both the main and side characters in the story and that ending was perfect.
