“But then again, love did not always wear a face of beauty.”

roshani chokshi ruined my life actually, shattered my heart into a million pieces. she's done it again with this installment of the tgw trilogy writing a world so grand with every detail just astounding with historical context, stunning world building, and adventures keeping readers at the edge of their seat. all the while still able to weave in amazing character dynamic/relationships along with banter and angst that has readers go through whiplashes of emotions as they turn each page. finding out the context of “I wish my love was more beautiful” worst thing to happen to my mental stability as i am truly utterly devastated beyond words. again shouting my love and gratefulness for the character that is enrique mercado-lopez, my pinoy king. every bit of filipino references we get, i cannot explain the amount of serotonin it gives me and not just that but relating to him on the deeper level knowing exactly how he feels of never being able to fit the mold that the world perceives on ones ethnicity, or being questioned by one's own for being true to the roots of a culture and having enough knowledge. séverin, laila, enrique, zofia, hypnos have attached themselves wholly to my heart with just these two books and after the events of this particular one i'm looking forward to the finale yet terrified of my wellbeing for what more pain chokshi will bring.

“You’re a lot braver than most of the people outside,” said Enrique. “None of them could build a bomb with their eyes closed and wander into a metal monster and still want to name it ‘David.’ Trust in yourself, Phoenix.”

“Maybe for girls made of snow, love was worth the melt. But she was made of stolen bones and sleek fur, grave dirt and strange blood - her heart wasn’t even hers to give. Her soul was all she had, and no love was worth losing it.”
