The Killer Across the Table: Unlocking the Secrets of Serial Killers and Predators with the FBI's Original Mindhunter by John E. Douglas, Mark Olshaker

5.0

Perhaps the best audiobook I've ever listened to. Jonathan Groff is a spectacular orator and listening to him narrate made the book all the more engaging.

Douglas is a very interesting figure to me. His approach to profiling and understanding the killers he speaks to sounds easily doable on the surface, but reading the insanely detailed descriptions of the crimes he was analyzing makes it apparent that it's easier said than done. I don't think I HAVE to supply a list of trigger warnings for a true crime book- I think it should go without saying- but this book is disturbing. Douglas starts by hitting the reader in the gut by beginning with a child murder. I plan to go over all of Douglas works. As much as I am critical of law enforcement, I find profiling and profilers fascinating and I itch to learn more.
