05/15/17 - Received this book in the mail today from the publisher. The giveaway I entered said it was for book #8 in the series, so I'm not sure if there was a mix-up. :)
09/07/17 -- I started reading this book today. I had entered a Goodreads giveaway for this book (in May 2017) and was one of the winners. However, after receiving the book, I discovered I actually was sent the next book in the series (#9 Down A Dark Road) instead. The letter that came with the book thanked me for entering the giveaway for book #8 but stated that "enclosed is a copy of" book #9. I'm not sure what happened with the giveaway, but I'm looking forward to reading all the books in this series!
09/26/2017 -- Finished this book on 09/13/2017.
This book hooked me from the very beginning. It moved at a fairly quick pace with a lot going on throughout out. As I read this before reading the earlier books in the series, I am sure there is some background of Kate that I am missing, but I felt like I wasn't lost by reading this one out of order. The murder was the very thing in the story and told in such a way that made me definitely wonder how it was going to be solved after the way it was presented. I am looking forward to reading more in this series!
