Sisi: Empress on Her Own by Allison Pataki
4.0

I understand the lower ratings-it really does read like a soap opera! But after reading the author's notes I can't help but appreciate the amount of research she did, and in her words, you can't make this stuff up. Sisi really did live an extraordinary life. I read these books to enhance my travels to Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich and they absolutely did. So many of the events in play in the two books were taught in high school history class, but I had never heard of Sisi. A friend described her as Austria's Princess Diana and I see so many parallels there-both sad, beautiful, idealistic young women married into old school monarchy and all the tradition that entails.
