Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson

(no original review ... so this review is from Dec 2023 re-read)

I know this series is considered one of the gold standards of fantasy romance, and I really do like it. However, the FMC Ellie is a little bit too much of a wilting daisy for me in this first book. It comes across as whiny at time.

I can't recall if that continues or it she grows out of it...I feel like she grows out of it. I guess we'll see. I'm just super in the mood for some non-YA romantasy, and so I've been re-reading some on my shelves because I can't find much that I haven't read that isn't YA. There are beats where the FMC feels YA-ish in this book, even though she's 24 (which, in a medieval-ish style fantasy, is nowhere near childhood, it's practically old maid territory), because of the wilting daisy thing. I mean, she literally faints when she meets the MMC. I practically got a migraine from rolling my eyes so hard.

But I do overall really enjoy the story, and I remember liking the series very much, so I'm reading onwards.
