Bacchae of Euripides by G. S. Kirk

5.0

Kirk provides excellent commentary throughout, explaining a lot of his translation choices and context. He renders the whole play and verse very readable, and retains a lot of the dark humour well. I also respect him for not shying away from character analysis in his footnotes, such as speculating about Pentheus' willingness to crossdress (857-860), and also responding to other critics getting hung up on stuff which Euripedes was not thinking that deeply about (1120f).
