I really enjoyed how Rooney captured the complexities that some relationships, especially between young adults, have. It was frustrating to witness the miscommunication between Marianne and Connell, but also felt very relatable in ways.

I enjoyed following their story, but the dialogue sometimes brought me out of it. I’m not even talking about the elimination of quotation marks throughout the novel (I actually stopped noticing after awhile and thought it made the story flow more cohesively), but the literal way the characters in the book would speak to each other, it almost felt like it wasn’t humans talking.

Overall, a beautiful story!
